The beach we were on was amazing. I couldn't believe the difference between low tide and high tide. Morning time was low tide, the tide was out almost a mile where we could walk around on hard sand and Weston could jump in all the puddles where we could find large crabs, craw fish and fish. High tide started in around noon and by 2 there was no beach. Because of this the water was super warm and perfect for swimming unlike other beaches around Cape Cod which can be a bit chilly.
The weather forcast was calling for rain all weekend, we lucked out, it was sunny and 78-80 the entire time.
It's not a vacation with us unless it has a few hiccups.
FRIDAY
Flight was delayed but only by an hour, West was awesome on the plane ride, we got to Boston at 5:30 instead of 4:30pm. Went to the car rental and we were there for an hour, it was 7:30 before we were on the road, a 2 hour car ride to Brewster in Cape Cod. Got to our resort, Ocean Edge Resort, in Brewster at 9pm and they had given our room away, even though we called at 5:30 when we landed and told them to hold it and they said no problem, I guess they over booked. They put us in a super crappy room that I would not let Weston walk in, we complained, then they put us in an awesome villa with a full kitchen, family room and deck. It wasn't walking distance to beach like we wanted or expected, but they did give us a beach pass with free parking and we were right next to a pool, cafe and bike rental. Our original room was supposed to have a pull out couch right next to our bed so we didn't order a crib, since they gave away our room our pull out bed was in a different room and we were too late for them to bring a crib (by this time it was around 10:30pm) so West slept with us and it was HORRIBLE. I called first thing in the morning for a crib and it was better.
SATURDAY
Had breakfast at Cafe, went to the beach for over 2 hours, Weston LOVES the beach. It was his first time in the sand and he had it everywhere, mostly he just loved to eat it, YUCK. The water was his favorite, we would come back to our chairs for a break, he would play in the sand for a minute or two and then he would run off towards the water again. He actually would throw himself into the water dunking himself entirely, we would scoop him up in horror and he was just laughing. He wore us out. Then we picked up lunch so West could nap, we all could have used a nap at this point. After lunch we rented bikes and a bike trailer for Weston and went on an hour bike ride, it was awesome. Everyone is on bikes and their bike path is amazing and beautiful. I forgot how much I love bike rides. After the bike ride we got cleaned up and went to dinner, I picked out a Lobster from the Lobster Pool and ate it! It was so funny that my place mat was actually instructions on how to eat an entire Lobster. Weston got his meal in a sand pail, very cute. Then we just drove around like old folks on a Sunday afternoon. It was a great relaxing day with beautiful scenery.
SUNDAY
We took our time getting ready and headed to Hyannis for brunch, bummed around there for a bit. W road a Carousel for the first time...not a fan. Then we headed to Chatham for a Seal Cruise and hung out on the beach for over an hour before. It was the first time W has on a boat, he did OK, he hated the life vest and was bored after an hour (he really could have cared less about the black things bobbing in the water). The Seal Cruise was fun, I wish we would have seen a full Seal, but the water was too rough to visit their island. We were surrounded by more than 50 Seals, it was quite incredible. When we left there was a good amount of beach and when we got back from our cruise the beach was gone and we had to walk in over 2 feet of water to get to the stairs back up to the mainland.
We LOVED Chatham, we definitely want to spend more time there next time, we are definitely planning on going back. Then we headed up to Provincetown (40 minute drive - and W nap time), it was horrible to drive in and there was nothing for us there (those who have been there know what I'm talking about), there were just too many people and parking cost money which we though was weird. We felt really out of place. We had dinner then went back to Brewster and stopped for ice cream and souvenirs on our last night, then back to resort for a quick snooze.
MONDAY
We were on the road by 5:30am, by the time we gave our car back and caught the shuttle to airport we arrived at the airport around 8:15am and our flight was at 9:25am. Got in to Canton around 11:30am, Adam had a meeting in Cleveland then we headed home and got back to home sweet home around 6pm.
It was great and relaxing and we never felt stressed to get anywhere at a certain time like we have on other vacations, we just took our time everywhere. We didn't want to overdue it being the first time we took W on vacation, and he was great and napped anytime we were in the car and did great on the airplane rides (the Flight Attendants were in love). The only downfall about bringing a toddler on vacation is that we are in for the night by 8pm, but it wasn't bad, we were ready to relax by then anyways and would just find a movie on the tube and enjoy some wine.
Our trip was way to short. We were there for only 2 full days and thank goodness the flight was only 1.5 long. It was great and we can't wait to go back, we WILL be going back.
